On autumn Saturdays, more than 80,000 cardinal-and-white-clad fans pack the University of Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium to enjoy one of the greatest atmospheres in college football. Gifted coaches-including Barry Alvarez, Bret Bielema and Dave McClain-and a steady stream of talented, hardworking players have led the Badgers to an enviable record of 22 bowl appearances and 12 Big Ten titles.

 

What It Means to Be a Badger: Barry Alvarez and Wisconsin's Greatest Players by Justin Doherty explores the program's vast success and the simple question - What does it mean to be a Badger? One person or one phrase cannot answer that question because so many different emotions encompass the true Wisconsin spirit.

About the Author:
Justin Doherty has been with the University of Wisconsin Department of Athletics for 17 years and currently serves as an associate athletics director. He was the recipient of the College Sports Information Directors of America's 2011 Arch Ward Award for outstanding contributions to the athletic communications field. Doherty is the author of three previous books about Badger football. A native of Southfield, Michigan, he resides with his family in the Madison, Wisconsin, area.
