What It Means To Be A Badger:
Barry Alvarez and Wisconsin's Greatest Players
By Justin Doherty / Foreword by Barry Alvarez
On autumn Saturdays, more than 80,000 cardinal-and-white-clad fans pack the University of Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium to enjoy one of the greatest atmospheres in college football. Gifted coaches-including Barry Alvarez, Bret Bielema and Dave McClain-and a steady stream of talented, hardworking players have led the Badgers to an enviable record of 22 bowl appearances and 12 Big Ten titles.
What It Means to Be a Badger: Barry Alvarez and Wisconsin's Greatest Players by Justin Doherty explores the program's vast success and the simple question - What does it mean to be a Badger? One person or one phrase cannot answer that question because so many different emotions encompass the true Wisconsin spirit.
Over 40 of the greatest Wisconsin student-athletes, coaches, and administrators from the past century were called upon to express why they are so proud to be a part of the storied tradition that is Wisconsin football. Some of the icons who shared their insights into their college careers in Madison include:
- Bret Bielema
- Jim Leonhard
- Al Toon
- Jamar Fletcher
- Ron Dayne
- Pat Richter
- Troy Vincent
- Billy Marek
- Lee Evans
- Joe Panos
- Brooks Bollinger
- Joe Thomas
What It Means to Be a Badger brings together all of their stories, as told by the most outstanding voices of the Wisconsin program and guaranteed to enhance your passion for Badger football. It's not just one tradition, one season or one particular game - it's the stories coming from the student-athletes and coaches who made the magic happen over the decades that capture the true essence of representing the University of Wisconsin.
