By Kerry Wood with Carrie Muskat
Illustrated by 4th Graders Across Illinois
Popular Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood had dreams of becoming a successful athlete growing up, and as a youth, he was committed to his goal: he wanted to be a professional baseball player. He is living proof that with hard work, determination and sacrifice, any dream - big or small - can become a reality.
In All You Can Be: Learning & Growing Through Sports (Triumph Books, June 2012) by Kerry Wood with Carrie Muskat (illustrated by Fourth graders from Chicago Public Schools), Wood shares the valuable principles he learned growing up that were instrumental to his current success in the big leagues, including:
Kerry shares his own personal stories about how he learned each lesson and was able to evolve and grow through every experience both good or bad. Those valuable principles are woven throughout the book along with artwork from Chicago Public School fourth graders who were asked to submit a drawing that exemplifies their own goals for the future. The 28 winners are the illustrators for All You Can Be, and a portion of all proceeds from sales of this book will help support children's programs run by the Wood Family Foundation.
"As a professional baseball player, I am granted the opportunity to help make an impact on today's youth and this book allows me to share the dream that became a reality with a lot of important lessons," explains Wood.

About the Authors:
Kerry Wood grew up in Texas, where he dreamed of becoming a great pitcher like his hero, Nolan Ryan. After only three years in the minors, he was called up to the Cubs in 1998 and stunned the baseball world by throwing a one-hit, 20-strikeout game in only his fifth start. Despite struggling at time with injuries, he has worked hard to remain one of baseball's top pitchers for 13 seasons. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Sarah, and children, Justin, Katie and Charlie.
Carrie Muskat covers the Cubs as a reporter for MLB.com and has been writing about Major League Baseball since 1981. For her last book project she compiled and edited the Chicago Cubs Cookbook. Carrie writes a blog, Muskat Ramblings, and you can follow her on Twitter @CarrieMuskat.
