The Texas Longhorn football team is one of the most noteworthy teams in college football. The players and coaches have a long tradition of excellence and have created a legacy that makes the great state of Texas very proud. Additionally, The University of Texas at Austin is consistently ranked one of the top schools athletically and academically.

Longhorn Nation: Texas’ Greatest Players Talk about Longhorn Football (Triumph Books, September 2015), by Bill Little and Jenna Hays McEachern, is a compilation of unique and wonderful stories by Texas Longhorn football players over the decades. This revered team managed to survive even by the attack on Pearl Harbor. This book takes you through how the players felt at pivotal moments during their time as Longhorns. With spirited coaches, such as D.X. Bible and Darrell Royal, the Longhorns were whipped into shape before they ever stepped foot on the field.

Some of the most amazing players at The University of Texas were Rooster Andrews, Bobby Layne, Earl Campbell, and Vince Young. He received offers to play at several universities, but Texas called his name. Each of these players played with true heart and dedication. Football fans will delight in this celebration of Longhorn football history, which includes an in-depth look at the following:

  • Noble Doss, who made the impossible catch that resulted in victory over A & M in 1940
  • Rooster Andrews, who was originally the water boy and went on to drop-kick an extra point in a game during World War II
  • The Longhorns 1953 defeat over Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl, which was the first nationally televised New Year’s Day bowl game
  • Ricky Williams became the NCAA’s all-time career rusher with a 60-yard run against Texas A & M in 1998
