Rock and Roll has been the soundtrack of pop culture for decades. Rock from Beatlemania and Janis Joplin ushered in the swinging, psychedelic era of the 1960s; the 80’s super pop records of Madonna and Prince explored sensuality with a beat that made you want to dance; and the grunge of 90’s Nirvana tapped into an angst and vulnerability that struck a chord with listeners. Versatile and timeless, rock has since laid the groundwork for R&B, hip-hop, punk and more. In this entertaining, educational guide to rock’s greatest artists, children will discover the musicians who defined history with their sound.

In The History of Rock: For Big Fans and Little Punks (Triumph Books; Ages 8 to 12; September 24, 2019), celebrated rock music DJ and music researcher Rita Nabais and acclaimed illustrator Joana Raimundo present a vibrant, engaging history of music legends. Offering a snapshot into the life and work of groundbreaking artists, this educational book is the perfect introduction to the world of rock. Highlights include:

  • Brightly colored illustrations that bring music icons to life
  • Historical background information on the time periods that gave rise to women’s punk rock, heavy metal, grunge and alternative music
  • Musician profiles detailing their birthplace, music genre, debut album and famous songs
  • A supplementary list of notable musicians and their popular hits during each musical era
  • A glossary of music genres and music-related terms
