The
Boston Red Sox have a following like none other in the world of professional
sports, and it seems that people from all over the globe are striving to join
the ranks of this curiously delirious fandom. The Sox are, without a doubt, America’s
baseball team, having for so many years symbolized the underdog, the American
dream, and good in the fight versus evil, all rolled into one.
The
essence of the Boston Red Sox—and what has helped to make Red Sox Nation so
fiercely loyal over the years—is found in the colorful heroes, the hated
villains, the unforgettable goats, the lovable flakes, and the countless
flukes. The numbers help tell the story of the 100-plus-year-old franchise,
and this book is loaded with statistics and trivia, but the real essence of
the Sox lies in the players, the characters, and the stories that represent
every era of Red Sox baseball.
Whether
you are a serious Sox fan in search of previously undiscovered informational
nuggets or a more casual fan looking to upgrade your status, Red Sox
Essential has what you need to call yourself a real fan. Through stories and
anecdotes, trivia and stats, and much more, this handy reference guide will
rekindle diamond memories from the early days of Fenway and provide hope,
humor, and a little bit of heaven.
The
hope may come in the form of recounting Red Sox glory, past and present. The
humor will be found in any number of countless clubhouse stories or tales of
misfortune that only a true Sox fan can appreciate. And any fan feels a
little closer to heaven at the mere mention of certain names in Sox history,
such as Cy Young, Teddy Ballgame, Yaz, Fisk, and so many more.
They’re
all inside these pages, along with the highs, the lows, and everything in
between that helps tell the compelling story of baseball’s most beloved
franchise.
