For baseball fans around the country, the name Dallas Green holds a special place in their hearts. With nearly sixty years of experience in baseball-as a pitcher, manager for the Yankees, Mets and Phillies and GM for the Cubs-it's hard to argue against his leadership capabilities. Never mincing words or shying away from his enemies, Green was able to arouse emotions from spectators. Whether it was his profanity-laced clubhouse tirades, outspoken opinions on the state of games or tears at an emotional funeral for his murdered granddaughter, they all became a part of the legendary figure he is today.
For the first time, the always candid, often abrasive Dallas Green evens the score and shares stories from his life both in and out of the dugout in his new autobiography The Mouth That Roared: My Six Outspoken Decades in Baseball. With the help of journalist Alan Maimon, this larger-than-life baseball personality offers his fans a chance to look behind-the-scenes at what it takes to make it in the major leagues with stories from the mound, dugout and executive offices, including:
In addition to stories from Green's career, The Mouth That Roared includes personal reflections about his granddaughter Christina Taylor-Green, who was shot and killed by a deranged stalker in Tucson, Arizona during the failed assassination attempt on the life of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Understanding that his granddaughter's too-soon death would change him forever, Green discusses how, in the wake of her passing, baseball became a coping mechanism for him.
A rare glimpse into the personal life of one of baseball's more memorable personalities, The Mouth That Roared is perfect for fans of Dallas Green and baseball alike and a must-have for the upcoming baseball season.
