As one of the five teams that joined the NFL in 1925, the New York Giants have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. With multiple players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well as a Hall of Fame coaching staff, the Giants have developed a loyal following and have proven again and again that they’re here to stay. In his inspiring foreword, Wellington Mara says the players “really were Giants, in all senses of the word.”
We Are the Giants! (Triumph Books, September 2014) by veteran sports writers Richard Whittingham and Dave Buscema uncovers the behind-the-scenes stories about the Giants who built the legacy behind one of the most successful teams in the league. These exclusive firsthand accounts are told by and about coaches and players, including Eli Manning, Bill Parcells, Lawrence Taylor and more. Highlights include:
- Eli Manning and Lawrence Tynes on the thrilling 2008 NFC Championship game in Green Bay.
- Tom Coughlin on the 20-17 OT win over the 49ers in 2012 and how he and his teammates prepare for a Super Bowl game.
- Frank Gifford remembers meeting Vince Lombardi at training camp and reflects on the impact Lombardi had on his football career.
- Shaun O’Hara remembers Wellington Mara and when the team beat the Washington Redskins two days after his memorial service. The victory was in honor of him.
The stories in We Are the Giants! reflect the strong family-like bond between the players and coaches, and it is obvious that that sense of camaraderie has contributed to the team’s success over the decades. Perfect for the die-hard Giants fan, this book provides a nostalgic, in-depth history of the league’s longest-established team in the Northeastern United States.
