Widely regarded as the dirtiest player in NFL history, Conrad Dobler was nothing short of a pit bull out on the gridiron.  Whether he was leg-whipping, head-slapping, chop-blocking, kicking, kneeing, punching, eye-gouging, or even biting, the three-time Pro Bowl offensive guard terrorized opposing defensive lineman by any means necessary.  That nasty attitude has him still getting dirty today as he is now embattled in the fight of his life with his former employer, the National Football League, and its players association.  Hes' on a crusade to help raise funds to help his former brothers in arms as they try to negotiate through the labyrinth of health benefits, pensions, and disability insurance.

In Pride and Perseverance: A Story of Courage, Hope, and Redemption, Dobler not only opens the vaults and dishes the goods on his former teammates and foes, he also talks candidly about what life was like down in the trenches in the raucous 1970s.

Birth of the NFL's "Dirtiest Player"
Learn what it takes to create the NFL's dirtiest player by reading the free online excerpt to Conrad Dobler's auotobiography PRIDE AND PERSEVERANCE: "I thoroughly enjoyed hitting people, and I couldn't believe there was actually a sport that allowed me to take out my aggression on people. What a beautiful country," Dobler says in the excerpt.  Much like Dick Butkus, Dobler was born in Chicago and displayed his own "Chicago way" of retribution on the gridiron. During his 10-year NFL career (1972-81), Dobler played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and the Buffalo Bills. In 1977, Sports Illustrated had Dobler on its cover, calling him the "Pro Football's Dirtiest Player." Learn more now about what made him that way.

Pride and Perseverance: A Story of Courage, Hope, and Redemption
He was known as the NFL’s “dirtiest player,” but that infamous moniker and reputation that followed is all but a distant memory for former NFL player Conrad Dobler.

In Pride and Perseverance: A Story of Courage, Hope, and Redemption by Conrad Dobler (Foreword by Dan Dierdorf) Dobler opens up about his tumultuous life on and off the football field. From his playing days of terrorizing opposing defensive lineman by any means necessary to his current life of dealing with life threatening injuries, caring for his quadriplegic wife and trying to make ends meet.

Dobler candidly expresses himself in Pride and Perseverance and reveals:

-Details about his life threatening ,crippling football injuries that have resulted in over 29 surgeries and may now result in the loss of his leg
-Specifics about his wife Joy’s devastating spinal cord injury in 2001 which rendered her a  paraplegic and changed their lives forever
-Details on becoming the main caretaker of household riddled with life and death challenges while simultaneously dealing with multiple business failures,  bankruptcy and the IRS
-The effects of  years of use of pain killers to deal with his pain and the impact on his family
-His battle with the NFL Player’s Association to gain disability benefits for himself and other retired NFL players
-The humbling experience of having to accept charity from others to survive and details about how a total stranger, legendary golfer Phil Mickelson stepped up to provide for his children
-His philosophy on the importance of paying it forward no matter what your situation is
-How his main motivation for playing football in college was to get a scholarship and not to play in the NFL
-How he was cut from the Cardinals in 1972 asked back and 8 days later and became a starter and three time pro bowler demonstrating his famous never give up attitude.
-Details regarding how he cares for his wife, deals with his own disabilities and spends time working with his wife Joy raising awareness and funds for spinal cord research.

Fans will learn that Conrad Dobler’s public image of being a tough, heartless guy is a truly a contradiction to who he really is as a man.

Pride and Perseverance is full of entertaining, interesting and sometimes shocking anecdotes, but the underlying message of courage, hope, and redemption will inspire those who are facing challenges to keep fighting and not give up.
