Recognizing that domestic and sexual violence directed against women is a serious social problem that continues to plague America, the National Football League Player's Association has joined with A CALL TO MEN, the leading national men's organization dedicated to addressing this problem, to produce NFL Dads Dedicated to Daughters, a book celebrating the unique and indestructable bond between fathers and daughters. In it NFL players and coaches, through inspiring personal accounts, talk about what it means to be a father, and the importance of being a role model for their daughters.
These courageous men of the NFL, men like Donovan McNabb, James Brown, Matt Hasselbeck, Tony Dungy, Jerome Bettis, Jeff Saturday, and many others, volunteered to share their thoughts and opinions on what it means to be a real man in today's society while engaging in thoughtful discussions on the role men play in preventing domestic violence. In so doing they have helped redefine our culture's definition of manhood and shown what it means to be a caring husband, father, and friend.
Much like the players, the NFL Player's Association and the National Football League hope that those who read the genuine expressions of these influential men will be encouraged to find their own voice, stand up and speak out on this important issue.
With Father's Day around the corner, the National Football Players Association has begun a nationwide campaign to stop violence against women with the new book NFL Dads Dedicated to Daughters as the centerpiece of this movement. During the month of June approximately one dozen NFL players around the country will have book signings where they can meet their fans and help teach young men how important it is to treat women of all ages fairly. Jerome Bettis will highlight the cross-country campaign on June 15 with appearances on TV's "Fox And Friends" and on ESPN's "First Take" along with radio interviews with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt, SI.com's Dan Patrick and Fox's Chris Myers. Also participating in book signings are: Brian Dawkins, Andra Davis, Chester Pitts, Takeo Spikes, DeMarcus Ware, Bertrand Berry, Brian Hawkins, DeAngelo Hall and David Thornton. Despite their athletic prowess and success, these gridiron heroes realize that protecting their daughters can be difficult in a world that sometimes treats women harshly. As a result these men have decided it is time to stand up and be heard. The result is NFL Dads Dedicated to Daughters.
