Penn State Football History
By Lou Prato/Foreword by Todd Blackledge
Penn State Nittany Lions fans are at their best on beautiful fall days in Happy Valley when more than 107,000 pack an electric Beaver Stadium. Countless memories have been etched in the minds of Penn State fans, and the best of the best of them are accounted for in the brand new book, Game Changers: The Greatest Plays in Penn State Football History.
Game Changers by Lou Prato (foreword by Todd Blackledge) was created for serious football fans and those who want to look back on the most memorable games ever while enhancing their Nittany Lions IQ. It reveals special stories and experiences over the decades and memorable moments from the players and coaches who made them happen. Author and Penn State football fixture Lou Prato shares what's really important and chronicles the most famous plays in Nittany Lions history including:
• Gregg Garrity's diving catch to win the 1982 National Title
• The 96-yard drive late in the 4th quarter to help win Penn State's first Big Ten Title
• The last-minute blocked field goal in 2001 that made Joe Paterno the winningest coach in college football history
• Pete Giftopoulos' interception of Vinny Testaverde to clinch the 1986 National Championship
So whether your favorite memory came in 1969 or 2008, whether it happened in Happy Valley or in a bowl game, you know you are part of something special as a Penn State fan. If you want to call yourself a true Nittany Lions aficionado, increase your knowledge of the program, and experience the full extent of Penn State football, then Game Changers: The Greatest Plays in Penn State Football History is a must read.
About the author:
Lou Prato is a veteran print and broadcast journalist who has covered the Nittany Lions football periodically since his undergraduate days at Penn State when Joe Paterno was still an assistant coach. He is the author of three previous books about Penn State football: The Penn State Football Encyclopedia, What It Means to Be a Nittany Lion (coauthor/editor with Scott Brown), and The Penn State Football Vault. Prato also writes about Penn State sports for various magazines, including two publications dedicated to Penn State football fans, Blue White Illustrated and Fight On State magazine. In 2000 Prato was hired by Penn State to help organize and start the Penn State All-Sports Museum, and in 2001 he became the museum's first director, retiring from that position at the end of 2005. Prato and his wife, Carole, are part of the rabid Nittany Nation that attends Penn State football games both at home and away. They live in Centennial Hills, Pennsylvania, outside of State College.
