With the reign of the Purple People Eaters in the 1970s, the Minnesota Vikings possessed the most feared defense in the game. Leading the purple juggernaut was Alan Page, one of the most respected players in NFL history. You name it and Page achieved it in football-first-round draft selection, All-Pro career, and of course, induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But it was after his playing career ended that Page made his greatest achievement-beginning a law career in the 1980s before being named as an Associate Justice to the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1993. Page's legion of fans will have the chance to meet him when he makes his only Chicago appearances for his new autobiography ALL RISE: THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF ALAN PAGE with co-author Bill McGrane and foreword by former President Bill Clinton. On October 1, Page will be at The Bookstall at Chestnut Court in Winnetka, IL at 6:30 p.m. More information about this appearance and Page's other Minnesota appearances can be found on the official page for ALL RISE.

A Supreme Court Hall of Famer
All Rise: The Remarkable Journey of Alan Page is the authorized biography of this remarkable man, a man who became a pioneer for his race without setting out to be one. He grew up in Canton, Ohio, in the shadow of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, into which he would later be inducted after his stellar NFL career. After leading Notre Dame to a national championship in 1966 and earning All-America honors, he became a first-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 1967. A six-time All-Pro for the Vikes, where he led the team to four conference titles, he was named the NFL's MVP in 1971, the first defensive player (and one of only two in the 54-year history of the award) to be so honored. With Carl Eller, Jim Marshall, and Gary Larson, the famed "Purple People Eaters" gained immortality as they set the gold standard for defensive linemen. During his 15-year NFL career, Page played in 218 consecutive games and recorded 178 sacks. To learn more about Page's upcoming book signings please refer to the official page for All Rise.
The Remarkable Journey of Alan Page
By Bill McGrane
Foreword by President Bill Clinton
Alan Page is one of the greatest defensive players in the history of football. After excelling at Notre Dame, he went on to a stellar career as a lineman with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. He was named NFL Most Valuable Player in 1971, played in four Super Bowls, was selected to the Pro Bowl nine times, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988-all stunning achievements.
Yet describing Alan Page as simply a "football player" would be doing him a tremendous disservice. It can be argued that Page's most important work started once he walked off the football field for the last time...and walked into a courtroom. From working as a lawyer in private practice to a stint in the Minnesota Attorney General's office to his election as a Minnesota Supreme Court justice, Page found equal success in the legal world.
All Rise: The Remarkable Journey of Alan Page is an authorized biography that tells the inspiring story of how this Canton, Ohio, native worked his way to the top of two very different professions and in the process touched the lives of countless people. By talking to Page as well as his family, friends, and colleagues from both football and law, author Bill McGrane-who first befriended Page while public relations director for the Vikings-has painted a fascinating portrait of one of pro football's most complex personalities.
Page was an unconventional football star who loved the game but also liked doing things his own way. Whether he was fighting for the rights of NFL players, running marathons during the off-season, using his Hall of Fame induction to promote education, or financially supporting thousands of deserving students through the Page Education Foundation, Alan Page has truly been an "All-Riser"-someone who generously gave of himself for the benefit of others, and followed a unique path in life.
About the Author:
Bill McGrane is uniquely qualified to write this biography, having known Alan Page for more than 40 years and boasting a résumé that includes parallel successful careers as both a writer (including a stint as a sports reporter for the Minneapolis Tribune) and professional football administrator (with the National Football League front office, Minnesota Vikings, and Chicago Bears). McGrane's popular "Insight" column ran in NFL game programs for 14 years. He is also the author of Bud: The Other Side of the Glacier, the biography of former Vikings coach Bud Grant. McGrane lives in Glencoe, Illinois.
